In your face Dr from 2 years ago!

Let’s rewind…

A couple christmasses ago, Mr Hasdogswantshumans and I had both just got the results of our primary fertility investigations back. I’d come back identified with PCOS and had set about change and Mr Hasdogswantshumans had recently attended a soul crushing doctors appointment where he’d  learnt that in layman’s terms, he had a normal amount of swimmy guys, but they were *very*lazy, as in only 2% of them were moving at all, and even those guys weren’t making a lotta progress  .This Doctor had actually used the words “you’re infertile, there’s nothing you can do about it”.

Now – I don’t normally have issues with authority or owt like that, but when a visibly deflated version of my husband (a man whos known he’s wanted kids his whole adult life) arrived home that day, I couldn’t help but think a) how insensitivly his appointment had been handled and b) nothing we can do about it? We’ll see about that!

Fast forward the next months and years, swallow a truck load of vitamins and supplements, clean up diets, cut caffeine and (most) alcohol, find time to exercise more, oh and eat loadsa tomatoes and we’ve seen dramatic improvements.

We (with a small amount of help from our fertility clinic 😉) produced a positive pregnancy test on our last IUI – this ended in a miscarriage, but this was still a step further than we’d ever got, devastating progress, if you will .

And yesterday the icing on the cake came on the morning of our 3rd IUI. We went into one of the little rooms to gown up and collect ourselves ahead of the procedure and were led to the treatment room. Running through all the routine questions, names, DOB’s, permissions (they have to double/triple check they’re putting the right sperm back in the right lady bits, could be an awkward tale for the grandkids otherwise, right?!), then the embryologist nonchalantly mentioned that we had good numbers today – our heads both lifted, waiting with interest….. 6.3 million highly motile sperm.  6.3 MILLION! They’ve told us, that they like to go ahead with 5M, and have previously had counts of 4.7 (negative) and 4.2 (positive). We’ve now obviously gotta wait out the next few weeks, but we’re hoping those extra 2 million have advanced swimming badges, with goggles and scuba kits if necessary.

So proud of Mr Hasdogswantshumans.

Oh and to reiterate the title of this blog/rant – In your face Dr who broke my husbands spirit a little bit that day, you sir, can suck it 😊
